Contest feedback.

Did you submit to the Solas House / Travelers’ Tales writing contest (results announced on 03/01/26)? Whether or not you placed in the contest, I hope you found the experience rewarding. That said, I know how frustrating it is to toil over a piece and never receive any feedback about what worked well and what did not — at least from one reader’s point of view.

As the primary judge for the competition, I did not have the time to provide feedback for the scores of pieces I read. However, I have kept notes. For a small fee to cover my time, I’ll take another look at your piece, review and complete my notes, and send you a paragraph of feedback. I won’t annotate your whole piece, but I can at least provide some basic information about my reading experience, and I can offer a few tips for the future. Turnaround is generally within 3-4 days (and often much faster).

Paris Lost & Found

“The funniest book I’ve ever read that also made me cry.” —Heather Stimmler, editor of Secrets of Paris.

“Carpenter takes us on a deeply personal journey, illuminating with poignant humor the City of Light, and loss, and love.” —Don George, author of The Way of Wanderlust.

“The best travel book I’ve read all year.”   —Gillian Kendall, Perceptive Travel
